Now, in addition to doing that, the main homework I have been suggesting is the Holy Instant. Practice the Holy Instant a lot — a lot — until it feels like it is driving you nuts. It is driving you sane, is what it's doing. If you can just get yourself to do the Holy Instant, it will shift you out of your normal mind-state. Your normal mind-state is what's insane. It is what's wacko.
The practice of the Holy Instant takes just an instant to do. Exhale and relax, and then mentally say to yourself, or wonder to yourself, or wonder to The Infinite, to God, say, "What is the truth here, really?" That is the practice. And then put a comma in your commentary. Shut up about it for a few moments. Ask the question and then don't race for the answer. Don't make up the answer right away. Refrain from making up an answer.
Be smart enough to know that you don't really know. But, want to know. Knowing is possible. And so, be open to a new Knowing.
The clue, remember, is that if you are conscious — and you ARE conscious, you would have to be conscious to even debate the fact — then, your consciousness is wirelessly connected to Consciousness.
And so, stop thinking that you know so much. Be smart enough to admit that, "Wow, I don't really have the clear, full picture on this. Therefore, I'm going to put what I normally think in pause-mode, because I want to know more than I know, because living my life with my current mind-state is just not hitting the mark as much as I would like! It's OK. But, it is not as fulfilling as I sense it could be."
And then pause, relax, and say, "What is the truth here, really?"
And then, don't make up the answer. Just BE in the New Now you find yourself in with a little less clutter in your mind.
I think you will find that your assessment about what you think is happening will undergo a transformation. I find myself being way more optimistic about the way things are playing out. The world looks like it is at a scary point right now. There are a lot of stupid, scary things happening. It's easy to get freaked-out, depressed. But, it is just as easy to start wondering, "What is the truth here, really? What's really going on here, really?" and begin to understand things in a new way, which will then fan them to keep blooming into awesomeness.
The world is not going down the tubes. It is waking up to the Fact of Unity, and people are duking it out along the way. But, it is happening in the news everyday. People are waking up to Unity. All the horrible things that are happening are catching everybody's attention, and as a people we are shifting into a conscious global conscience.
And so, as one of the current yogis on the planet, don't walk around thinking that whatever you think or do doesn't have much significance. If your consciousness is connected to Infinite Consciousness, as it is, then whatever you think, whatever assessments you make, are infiltrating everywhere.
Start defining everyone on our planet as a Brother and a Sister, is a good start. Get clear within yourself that there is no real enemy out there, not really. There are brothers and sisters who are confused about the fact. There is Family, confused about the fact. Walk around looking at people, reminding yourself, "Oh, that's a brother. That's a sister. That's a brother. That's a sister. That's a sister. That's a brother. That's a sister." The homeless guy down the street, "Oh, he's a brother. He's having a hard time, but he's a brother."
And remember, you are a brother or a sister with someone when you have the same parents. We are all sourced by the same Source, as it turns out. Everyone on the planet — everyone on every planet — is sourced by the same Source! There is no real enemy to The All. There are just deluded brothers and sisters doing the best they can. And, I think we will all do a little bit better the more we inquire, "What is the truth here, really?" It will help erase confusion.
And so, each time it occurs to you, remind yourself to relax and then wonder, "What is the truth here, really? Something's going on. What is the truth here, really?" Don't think about it too much. Next thing you know, you will get little ideas and insights that help answer the question. You WILL find yourself coming up with a more accurate assessment. But, put your current assessment in pause-mode, temporarily — long enough to say the sentence, anyway.
And, you are doing something. If you are not inquiring into, "What is the truth here, really?" chances are you are just living out your current level of ignorance. And you can do that, is the thing. But, it is not as fulfilling as you know it could be. Therefore, inquire. Want to know, "What is the truth here, really?"
That is the main homework. Do that five thousand times a day.
